Tone Grøttjord-Glenne
Director/producer
No stories are more incredible, powerful or more able to change the world than those from reality.
Tone Grøttjord-GlenneIn 2003 I returned from London with a Masters degree in Documentary Filmmaking: Directing from the National Film and Television School. The film school became a journey of discovery for me and I realised that every single documentary film has its own secret recipe in which the visual expression, ethics and dramaturgy must be balanced in perfect harmony. My exam film Brothers was shown at many festivals and won several awards. Following my directorial debut with the award-winning film Prirechnyy (2006) my desire to start my own production company grew ever stronger.
In 2006, Sant & Usant was founded, and the cornerstone of the company was to make strong, visual films. The first films I produced were made in Norway for Norwegian audiences, but over time the ambition grew into making big, international stories that could move, amaze and change people all over the planet.
In 2012, Anita Rehoff Larsen joined the company as a co-owner, and with the empowerment of being two it became possible to properly elevate the company onto the international film stage.
After having produced films for some fantastic directors and having built the company up over many years with Anita I wanted to return to my inner director. First came the cinema documentary All that I am (2020), and in 2021 we will release Sisters on Track, which I am co-directing with Corinne van der Borch.
Every film I work on teaches me something important; about the world, about life and about myself. All that I am and Emilie’s story opened up a new chapter in my life and the word impact gained a new meaning. With many skilled people on the team, a large project of change emerged, which altered me and my views on documentary filmmaking. In addition to my desire to make strong visual stories it became equally important to utilise the innate power of documentary films to contribute to change.
In the exceptional year of 2020 the project of change that we had developed for All that I am, developed into a method and a platform that could be applied to more films, which have change as a goal in itself. Educational Storytelling grew out of this and became a reality.
It is impossible to completely hang up my producer’s hat, and it has been my great pleasure to be involved in the Sant & Usant films with Anita, Helen and Karoline. In conjunction with international colleagues, it’s fantastic to be able to contribute as a co-producer/EP to lift up cinematic films that leave strong footprints in the world we live in.
